2023-24 Audition Information Link:Wind EnsembleWind Ensemble is offered during both the fall and spring semesters, and is the premier concert band at Jordan. It is composed of students who have demonstrated excellence in performance on their respective instruments. Students in Wind Ensemble are expected to possess a high level of musicianship and knowledge of practice. Members regularly audition for and participate in honor bands and clinics across the state. The ensemble regularly participates in Music Performance Adjudication (MPA), where they are evaluated by a panel of judges on their performance of concert literature and sight reading. The group has consistently received superior ratings at MPA. The band performs at all of Jordan’s seasonal concerts, a tour to local elementary and middle schools at the beginning of each spring semester, the JHS Spring Commencement Ceremony (Graduation) and any other school, district, or community events as requested. The group may also periodically travel across the state and nation on overnight trips.

I noticed that this class has an audition requirement. How does that work?
- Placement in Wind Ensemble is through audition only, as this course counts for honors credit. Auditions will take place every January, and information about those will be communicated to students by the Band Director. If you are a rising freshmen and intending to register for a band class at Jordan, audition information will be communicated to you through your respective middle school Band Director at the beginning of the semester. If a student does not audition and registers for band, they will be placed into Symphonic Band.
- The Wind Ensemble performs a wider and more challenging range of music, and has honors requirements (click here to read the requirements in the JHS Band Handbook-- see section: Honor Credit). Students in this ensemble regularly prepare and audition for CBDA All-District Band and other honor bands across the state. Many students will participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival during the spring semester, in order to receive individualized feedback on their playing in a smaller setting.
- You'll be a part of a ensemble that has a long history of quality music making. When you're a musician, there's nothing else like performing with other talented, hard working musicians. Wind Ensemble serves as a relaxing experience, allowing you to perform and get your mind off of other courses and release daily stress.
