Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Marching Band:
Do I need to register for a class participate in marching band?
- Marching band is an extracurricular activity at Jordan and takes place entirely after school and on the weekends. However, we highly encourage all students to register for at least one of our band course offerings during the day (see below). Most students who participate in marching band also are registered for a band course at Jordan.
- The only sections within the marching band that require an audition are drumline and color guard. These auditions will take place in April every year. Please check our calendar here for audition dates.
- Two of the best reasons: you'll have fun, and make friends fast. The transition from middle to high school can be tough. When you join marching band, you get to know students in all grade levels (9-12) before school starts so you already have an established friend group when school starts. Many of our student leaders can offer valuable advice that will help you navigate school life here at Jordan. You also get to travel around the state and nation to competitions, perform in parades and other community events, which deepen your learning experience and provide a break from your other courses. DID YOU KNOW?: Admissions officers at 70% of the nation's major universities have stated that high school credit or achievement in the arts are significant considerations for admissions to their institutions. - At the end of every Spring semester, we will host a mandatory marching band parent meeting in May to communicate information about the upcoming season. The Band Director will communicate the date of this meeting to rising freshmen through their respective middle school Band Directors. Our season begins with a three day mini-camp in June. We also have band camp, a two week period in late July and early August, that all students are required to attend. We also have summer rehearsals in between band camp and school starting. We ask that families plan vacations and other events around these dates, as a student’s absence is detrimental to the whole group’s preparation, progress, or performance. All dates can be found on our calendar linked here.
